SENNELIER | Artists' oil pastels — theme sets
These oil pastels were developed by SENNELIER specifically for Picasso in 1949. Paint in solid form, which could be easily applied to all kinds of substrates did not exist before this time. The oil pastels are famous for their highly concentrated, pure pigment content. Thanks to the special wax and an acid-free binder (without siccative), the pastels do not dry out. They have a creamy consistency similar to oil colours, are lightfast, and suitable for all types of grounds; paper, cardboard, canvas, wood, metal, glass, etc.
Oil pastels are best not used together with oil colours, possibly only as a final layer and provided the oil colour has dried through completely. Oil pastels do not dry through, and should be fixed in 2 to 3 layers before applying a final varnish, if necessary. If oil pastels are thinned with white spirit, a transparent colouring similar to watercolour is produced.
