The colours of Japan's professional ARTISTS' GOUACHE - named after Hans Holbein the Younger, the renowned artist of the German Renaissance - are opaque, bright and saturated. They dry evenly, uniformly and velvety matt.
It is a classic gouache based on gum arabic and dextrin - so it does not dry waterproof, remains soluble with water and is not scratch or smudge-proof. If you wish, you can apply a fixative or varnish to protect your work, but be aware that that changes your colours and can make them less opaque and more transparent. This makes photographing or digitally scanning your work more difficult.
TIP! A thinly applied fixative or varnish based on casein or Paraloid B72 will have the least - but some - effect on your colours. Just keep in mind that such a fixative or varnish becomes part of the paint layer - you cannot remove it!
You can effortlessly apply your colours on top of each other, maintaining opacity. So a top colour will always cover an underlying colour completely - without transparency. There are also no whitening agents or fillers added to make this gouache more opaque. When mixed, your colours do not become muddy or cloudy - they remain bright, clean and opaque. And your paint won't turn chalky either!
TIP! In order to better estimate your colours and mix them better, Munsell colour codes are marked on the tubes.
