GELLI ARTS® | Gel printing plates — rectangular or square
1. Rectangular format
2. Square format
GELLI ARTS® Gel Printing Plates are ideal for the production of colourful and unique monotypes (also called monoprints). Acrylic paints are best, although water-soluble printmaking inks and fabric paints are also ideal.
Dyes are not recommended (e.g. rubber stamp inks, spray inks or fabric dyes) as the gel will absorb some of the dye and become stained. However, stains will not affect printing performance.
After use clean your GELLI ARTS® Gel Printing Plate with mild soap and water. Paint residues can be removed by rubbing with a gel hand sanitizer or baby wipe. Rinse the plate after cleaning and pat dry with a paper towel. These plates are durable, reuseable and easily transportable. Always store Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plates at room temperature. Store them flat, preferably in their original clamshell packaging or otherwise on a smooth, flat, clean surface e.g. a piece of glass. These GELLI ARTS® Gel Printing Plates have an extremely sensitive surface and will imprint any texture they are sitting on or covered with - avoid plastic wrap, waxed paper or glossy photo paper!
GELLI ARTS® Gel Printing Plates are made of a unique plastic that contains mineral oil. Small amounts of this harmless oil will leach out when plates are left so it is recommended to protect your worksurface by placing your gel printing plate on a smooth, flat, non-porous barrier such as a Teflon sheet, baking tray or piece of glass. There is no latex in the gel plate, and it does not contain any animal products. As the gel plate is used it is normal for it to lose its gloss finish and become matt and cloudy. This does not affect its performance.
It is easy to make fun textures with these GELLI ARTS® Gel Printing Plates with bubble wrap, plastic grids, foam stamps, stencils, leaves and string to create interesting imagery on your plate. For hand-drawn marks use soft-tipped tools like paintbrushes, cotton tipped swabs or soft rubber-tipped tools. Do not use pointy tools such as pencils or toothpicks as they may scratch the gel plate surface and leave permanent marks.
