CHARBONNEL LITHOGRAPHIC Ink is a very strong, viscous black colour. This drawing ink is used in lithography as a black colour and for various techniques. It is available in various tin sizes.
In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease-treated image on a flat printing surface; areas which are blank and hold moisture repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed.
Possible areas of application for CHARBONNEL LITHOGRAPHIC Ink:
- 1. Colouring: Here, the litho stone is rolled in with the ink in a moist state using a leather roller.
- 2. Lithographic reversal: In this technique, the stone is rolled in with ink, dusted with asphalt powder, deacidified with an alum solution and dried. Shellac dissolved in alcohol is then poured over the inclined stone. Once this layer has dried, a cotton swab soaked in petrol is wiped over the stone in a circular motion. This removes the ink colour of the drawing in the areas where it was printed. The shellac adheres to the stone in the previously image-free areas. Weak etching destroys the last remnants of the greasy ground in the areas where the image has been. Wash off the stone and leave to dry. The stone can then be rolled with colour, which is only accepted by the shellac base.
- 3. Negative stone engraving: Roll the smooth, unpolished stone with a thin layer of ink and powder with asphalt. Burn in this layer, engrave the design and treat the engraving with strong rubber etching. Wash out the stone, roll in the colour and print.
